“Capturing the Scent of Experience,

Cigarettes, Cricket & Boats”

Will Andrews, Evaluator and Fragrance Scientist & Peter Malton, Perfumer

P & G Prestige Fragrance Creation Team

“As odour experts, we use a common technical language, but there is still a gulf in odour knowledge between us and consumers of our scented products. Though one could dismiss the need for a fine fragrance brand image, it acts as a familiar and inspirational anchor for the perfume wearing public. To take this thinking one step further, P & G recently captured the odours surrounding two distinctive experiences: a day at cricket and the odours on board an ocean racing yacht. The objective was to create accords to build into future fragrances or at the very least to act as inspirational material for the perfumery team. Including Odour evaluation, this short talk shares the story of developing those accords, discusses the issue of Olfactory Communication and suggests that perhaps the smoking ban is a really good thing for the future of odour appreciation ( but not in the way you think…..)!
