The
British Society of Perfumers
Perfumery
Workshop Weekend 2009
March 27th – 29th 2009
Once again in
2009 the
BSP
played host to the Perfumery Workshop Weekend during which the
attendees have
the opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and experience
together with
many of the top experts of the fragrance world. This unique workshop
weekend
provides a full introduction to all aspects of perfumery and includes
topical
lectures and hands on project work. Within an idyllic setting at the
Hythe
Imperial Hotel in Kent, this
was a fun, action packed weekend that provided a valuable insight into
the
magical world of perfumery, from creation and regulation, to marketing
and
mechanics.
The Workshop Weekend
2009
The purpose of the
weekend was
to give people who are new to the perfumery industry an introduction to
all
aspects of this wonderful industry that we are so privileged to have
found for
ourselves. There were lectures from long standing members of the
Society, a
perfume creation exercise under the guidance of Dr Tony Curtis from the
University of Plymouth and a
creative moment for some well earned relaxation on Sunday morning. Some
of the topics presented were ‘a day in the life of a perfumer’, ‘the
role of
the evaluator’, ‘fragrances and marketing’ and ‘mechanism of smell’ to
name a
few.
The weekend was
relaxed and
informal in its delivery. The principle was to involve all those
present,
entertaining and amusing those taking part and to share the knowledge
and to
create ideas and enthusiasm for the industry.
The Brief
Project ‘Burrasca’
The ‘brief’ is the
project that the students were
given to work to. In teams, they each had to plan from start to finish
the
fragrance using accords provided, a marketing plan and concepts that
‘Burrasca’
may wish to follow.
An unmatched
performance on the race track coupled
with Italian design flare has made the ‘Burrasca’ the European icon.
‘Burrasca’
bikes have speed and performance to match any Mediterranean storm for
spectacle. All this coupled with seductive, graceful, flowing lines.
‘Burrasca’
is a classic brand in every sense of the word.
‘Burrasca’ have been
approached by a global company
manufacturing a range of high profile branded personal care products
and fine
fragrances. It is intended to license the ‘Burrasca’ brand for personal
care
and fine fragrances, for the European market. Your creative fragrance
house has
been approached to provide fragrances for this exciting new venture.
For the
purposes of this workshop the focus will be on shower gel/bath foam.
The students up for
this high speed challenge, see
below some of their submissions:
A fine weekend with
great participation from the
lecturers and students, many thanks to all those that helped and
supported the
event.
