Johann Maria Farina, the Managing Director of Farina, the world’s oldest fragrance company which was established in 1709, 310 years ago in the city of Cologne will give a presentation at the Royal Society of Chemistry, Piccadilly to BSP members and friends on 10th September 2019.
Probably no other product in the world has been connected with the name of a famous city for so long as Eau de Cologne. This is above all due to the exceptional personality and genius of Giovanni Maria Farina, Johann’s celebrated ancestor who made Cologne his homeand created Eau de Cologne. In the Rococo period his perfume took the Royal Courts of Europe by storm and laid the basis for the unique worldwide success of his family company Farina. His acceptance of the BSP’s invitation is extremely well timed and coincides with a major exhibition being staged at the International Museum of Perfumery in Grasse about the fabulous history and story of Eau De Cologne. the society is very privileged and honoured to have Johann Maria Farina give an insight into his family history and legacy.
