Once again, here I am writing to all of you – my heart on my sleeve and my cap in hand.
The entire world is now dealing with this alarming pandemic. I am incredibly fortunate to be able to shut the door of my warm, dry house. To have my own bathroom. To have space for isolation from the rest of the family should one or other of us become unwell. To have enough food. To have soap. To have running water. To have space outside where I can distance myself from others. To have a fabulous National Health Service (NHS) with phenomenal staff and resources that is free at the point of access, no matter how rich or poor you might be. To have more than half a million volunteers ready and willing to assist the NHS in any way they can. To have local groups from the community offering assistance in many different ways to those who need it.
Millions don’t have any of these privileges.
If you’re able to spare a thought and a few pounds for those who aren’t as lucky as most of us right now, I and the African Children’s Fund charity – for which I am a volunteer and trustee – would be so very grateful.

Enormous thanks for taking the time to read my message and to all who are able to support this appeal. If you have a family member, friend or business acquaintance whom you think might also want to help please share this message with them.
Thank you all, stay safe, stay well.
Best wishes,
Derek
